Christian Counseling Center - San Jose was born out of God’s blessing, and the mission He planted in the heart of Loren Thompson to establish Christian-based professional counseling services to be partners in ministry with the pastors, churches, Christian schools and other Christian ministries of San Jose and the surrounding Silicon Valley.

Loren Thompson, a leader in his church in Fremont, CA, was clearly called from his career as a school counselor and superintendent to become a licensed Christian counselor to serve the needs of his church and of other surrounding churches. He started Christian Family Counseling Centers in Fremont and Santa Rosa in the late 1970s. In the spring of 1989 he accepted the invitation of Campbell Church of Christ to take over the Christian counseling practice of a therapist who was moving away. This, he knew, was the Lord’s provision to fulfill his calling to establish a counseling center to serve the churches of San Jose. The San Jose Christian Family Counseling Center was launched with two licensed therapists and two interns in April 1989.

A year later, on April 1, 1990, the Christian Family Counseling Centers (San Jose, Fremont and Santa Rosa) were merged with the Christian Counseling Centers, which were under the direction of Dr. Sunny Arnold. Dr. Arnold had been called by the Lord in 1983 to establish Christian counseling centers in San Jose, the Santa Clara Valley and the larger Bay Area in partnership with pastors and churches. With the merger, we became the Christian Counseling Center - San Jose with sister centers in Santa Rosa, San Francisco, Hayward, Fremont, San Mateo and Mountain View.

Since the beginning of Christian Counseling Center – San Jose in 1989, the Lord has continuously blessed and grown our center. Multiple contacts, relationships and agreements have been established with pastors, churches, Christian schools and other Christian organizations to provide those with faltering lives, marriages and families with help, healing and renewal through Christian counseling.

The Lord has brought together an incredibly gifted and comprehensive staff with the highest professional credentials and licensing. He has orchestrated a team and community of Christian psychiatrists, psychologists, marriage and family therapists, and social workers, as well as talented psychological assistants, interns, and trainees who are practicing toward their licensure. Each of our therapists is a committed Christian working at living out their faith daily in their professional and personal lives.

Christian Counseling Center – San Jose, Inc. is a non-profit corporation with over 45 professional therapists, both licensed and pre-licensed. We currently occupy 25 counseling offices in four suites in our office building at 3880 South Bascom Avenue, San Jose, CA 95124.
